MONTREAL — Quebec's police watchdog is investigating after a woman on Tuesday was struck and killed by a driver fleeing Montreal police.
The Bureau des enquetes independantes says the chase began Tuesday afternoon after a Montreal police officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle.
It says the officer got in his patrol car and caught up to the driver, who allegedly accelerated the vehicle.
The watchdog says the suspect lost control of the vehicle and struck a 79-year-old woman. She was later pronounced dead in hospital.
The agency says the occupants of the vehicle, which police believe was stolen, fled on foot.
The watchdog says it has dispatched six investigators on the case.
