Quebec health officials reported more than 2,000 daily cases of COVID-19 for the second straight day on Sunday, recording 2,146 new infections and 21 additional deaths linked to the novel coronavirus.

MILTON, Ont. — Police say an 11-year-old boy has died after he and another boy fell through the ice on a stormwater management pond in Milton, Ont. Halton police say the boys ventured onto the thin ice at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

MONTREAL — Quebec posted more than 2,000 daily COVID-19 infections for the first time this week on Saturday, reporting 2,038 confirmed cases and 44 additional deaths linked to the novel coronavirus.

Ontario reported 2,357 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, the fifth consecutive day with more than 2,000 daily new infections. The province also recorded 27 new deaths related to the novel coronavirus.

Toronto police say they are investigating reports from several people who received threatening letters in the mail.

OTTAWA — A nine-month-old girl who was at the centre of an Amber Alert has been found safe. Ottawa police say the girl's 39-year-old mother is in custody. They say the Gatineau police helped with the investigation, which is ongoing.
