Driver from Goulais charged with impaired in Elliot Lake

On Dec. 23, 2019 at 12:46 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were called to a single motor vehicle collision on Esten Drive South in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont.

Police attended Esten Drive South to find a small car which had crashed into the snowbank and the hazard lights were flashing. The driver was not injured and a strong odour of alcohol was detected emanating from their breath. 

As a result, the driver was arrested, driver's license suspended, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Shelby Bob, 24 years of age from Goulais Township, Ont. was charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking, contrary to section 145(3) of the CC,
  • Class G1 License Holder - Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver, contrary to section 5(1) Regulation 340/94, of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ont. on Jan. 7, 2020. The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive.
