A tractor trailer driver involved in a single-vehicle collision north of the Sault this weekend had non-life-threatening injuries, according to the OPP.

Highway 17 was closed between Agawa Bay and Wawa Sunday afternoon after a tractor trailer faced extensive damages when it overturned.

In an email to SooToday, Superior East OPP Community Safety Officer Ashley Nickle says the tractor trailer unit was travelling towards the Sault and carrying groceries at the time of the incident.

The highway closed shortly before noon hour on Sunday and didn’t reopen until 7 p.m. that evening.

The highway was initially closed at Frater Road north of Montreal River Harbour, the 511Ontario road information service said.

Police later closed the road in both directions from Frater Road to Highway 101 near Wawa.

Nickle says the driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision remains unknown at this time.
