Driver of dump truck in Highway 17 crash had no licence: OPP

The company that operates the dump truck also faces a charge

A Sault driver, and the truck company he works for, have both been charged in relation to a collision that occurred last Friday in Garden River.

As a result of the investigation, 60-year-old Charles McMillan stands charged with:
    •    Careless driving, contrary to section 130(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
    •    Drive commercial motor vehicle - no licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the HTA
    •    Notice of drivers licence suspension for operating a commercial motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration above zero

The company the accused is employed by has been charged with:
    •    Permitting unlicensed person to drive commercial vehicle, contrary to section 32(10) of the HTA

Officers responded to the the scene of a crash involving a van and a dump truck near Noonday Road at around 7:30 a.m. on July 22. One driver was taken to hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
