The occupants of a vehicle stopped at a RIDE check in Espanola are facing charges.
On Friday night, shortly after 11 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle at the checkpoint on Highway 6 near Old Webbwood Road in Espanola.
One of the passengers in the vehicle was wanted and ultimately arrested.
Police say they searched the vehicle and found a large amount of Canadian cash as well as large quantities of suspected fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine.
The rest of the people in the vehicle were also arrested and transported to the OPP detachment.
Misty Plume, 45, from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory is charged with:
- obstruct peace officer
- possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - two counts
- possession of a schedule I substance - three counts
- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
Plume was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Sudbury Bail Court in August.
Dante Recollet, 22, and Sabrina Trudeau, 26, from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory are charged with:
- possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - two counts
- possession of a schedule I substance - three counts
- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
Both were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola in September.
Adam Shawana, 46, from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory is charged with:
- possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - two counts
- possession of a schedule I substance - three counts
- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- fail to comply with probation order
Shawana was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Sudbury Bail Court in August.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and all four individuals are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
