ENSURE YOUR VEHICLE IS ALWAYS LOCKED…. (Elliot Lake, Ont.) At approximately 11:12 on April 10, 2008 the East Algoma OPP were called to attend a residence on Spruce Avenue in Elliot Lake regarding a possible theft.

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) At approximately 11:12 on April 10, 2008 the East Algoma OPP were called to attend a residence on Spruce Avenue in Elliot Lake regarding a possible theft.

Investigation revealed that the homeowners had witnessed someone allegedly stealing items from their vehicle parked in the driveway.

A 14-year-old female has been arrested and charged with Theft Under from a Motor Vehicle. The name of the accused will not be released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The 14-year-old female is scheduled to appear in court on June 3, 2008.

COUNTERFEIT $20.00 BILL SURFACES IN ELLIOT LAKE

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On April 9, 2008 at approximately 12:50 p.m. police attended a local bank in Elliot Lake regarding a possible counterfeit bill.

On scene, police learned that the suspected counterfeit $20.00 was received through a transaction at the ATM machine. The date of printing on the bill was noted be 1994 and has the following serial number AZS2345778.

Anyone with information regarding the above counterfeit money is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-705-942-7867 Or 1-800-222-8477.

Investigation continuing.

Impaired Driver Stuck in Front Yard

Sault OPP were called to a residence on Hwy# 638 Garden River First Nation at 4:43 a.m. Friday morning in regards to a noise complaint involving a vehicle making a lot of noise trying to get unstuck. Unknown to the complainant was the fact that the vehicle in question was his own and it was stuck in his front yard. Arrested for Impaired Driving, Breach of Probation, Driving while disqualified, Theft over $5000.00, Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00 and Mischief Under $5000.00 is Christopher Ian MOAR age 26 of 642 Wellington St Sault Ste Marie. Moar is being held in custody pending a Bail hearing.

Do Not Forget Your Winter Driving Skills

It seems every time there is a change in the weather people forget their winter driving skills. The key to surviving changing road conditions is to slow down. Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating a early morning crash on Hwy#17 at Calabogie Rd in Laird Township. At around 4:32 a.m. a passenger car was attempting to pass a sander and lost control in the slush striking the sander. A following Tractor Trailer then struck the car. One person has been taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. This crash was avoidable and motorist are reminded to use extreme caution whenever passing a snow plow or sander. This is all the information available at this time.

OPP LOOKING FOR S.T.O.P. OFFICER=

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is taking applications for the S.T.O.P. (Snowmobile Trail Officer Patrol) program. If interested, please drop off your application in the form of a resume/cover letter addressed to "Attn: S.T.O.P. Program" at the Elliot Lake, Blind River, or Thessalon OPP detachments by May 16, 2008. The following conditions must apply:

S.T.O.P. Officer Requirements

1. Must be a permanent resident of Ontario;
2. Must be at least 18 years of age;
3. Must be of good moral character with no criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted:
4. Have completed the Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent;
5. Must provide evidence of a valid Ontario Photo I.D. Driver's Licence with a good driving record;
6. Have a minimum of three years snowmobile driving experience;
7. Must have access to a snowmobile in good condition which is operable to prescribed norms;
8. Be mentally and physically able to perform the duties of a S.T.O.P. Officer;
9. Have Ontario Health Insurance;
10. Not have employment which may create a conflict of interest with the S.T.O.P. Program;
11. Must provide proof of current C.P.R. and First Aid Certificates;
12. Must attain satisfactory standards through various personnel tests;
13. Willing to commit a Minimum forty hours per month, on patrol during the snowmobile season and attend training classes as required.
