STORAGE BUILDING BROKEN INTO (Thessalon, Ontario) On Friday April 18, 2008 at approximately 8:00 a.m. the East Algoma Thessalon OPP were contacted regarding a storage building being broken into at Lakeside Park, located in Thessalon, Ontario.

(Thessalon, Ontario) On Friday April 18, 2008 at approximately 8:00 a.m. the East Algoma Thessalon OPP were contacted regarding a storage building being broken into at Lakeside Park, located in Thessalon, Ontario.

Suspects pried off the locks and entered the building. Nothing was taken in the break and enter.

Some People Are Not Getting The Message

Sault Ste Marie Detachment and Traffic and Marine Officers have issued 19 Seat belt charges in the first two days of the Provincial Spring Seat Belt Campaign. Of the charges laid, 9 were for passengers in the vehicles not wearing their seat belts. If a vehicle gets into an accident the unrestrained passenger can become a missile injuring or killing other people in the car. High speeds are not necessary for this to occur. Officer have checked in excess of 800 vehicles and have laid 20 other charges, mostly for speeding in the past two days. The Spring campaign will run until April 28th but officer will continue to aggressively enforce seat belt violations all year round. Every year needless deaths and injuries occur because people chose not to buckle up. Society as a whole pays also pays the costs for these needless injuries and deaths.


POLICE AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS DECLARE ZERO TOLERANCE ON DRUGS

(East Algoma OPP) East Algoma OPP in conjunction with the Sault Ste Marie Drug Enforcement Unit conducted an investigation regarding drug use at local high schools in Elliot Lake and Blind River.

In Elliot Lake 8 young offenders were arrested for possession, 8 students were suspended from school and all arrested parties were diverted through the Youth Criminal Justice Act. One young offender was arrested for obstruct police. A small quantity of cannabis marihuana was seized.

In Blind River seven students were identified as being part of some illegal marihuana possession and partaking of same while on school property. One young person was charged with possession of a Controlled substance and six others were dealt with by way of diversion through the Youth Criminal Justice Act. One of the youths was found to have an outstanding warrant and was transported to Sudbury where the warrant was issued. All seven students were suspended from school as a result of their involvement in this incident. A small quantity of Marihuana was seized.

The charged youth will appear in court in Blind River on 02 June 2008.

OPP CONTINUE SEARCHING FOR MISSING MAN

(Espanola, ON) – Members of the Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are continuing their search for a missing man and are appealing to the public for their assistance.

Christopher GREENMAN, age 36, who is originally from Manitoulin Island but had been working in the Meaford, ON area. He was reported missing to Grey County OPP on Sunday, April 13th, 2008. Further investigation revealed that he was last seen walking in the Town of Espanola on Saturday, April 12th, 2008 at approximately 6:30 a.m. Officers also received information that he was going fishing. His last contact with family was at 3:00 p.m. that afternoon when he made a call and left a message for his brother. He is described as white male, 5”9”, 165 lbs, medium build with short brown hair with a receding hair line and blue eyes. He also has a scar, approximately 5 centimeters in length, on his left forearm. He was last seen wearing a dark winter coat and carrying a small bag containing clothes and a shaving kit.

The OPP helicopter conducted an air search of the area yesterday (April 16th, 2008). Today, an OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit are also assisting with a ground search of the Spanish River banks. As well, the OPP Marine Unit is searching the waterways of the Spanish River.

The Espanola OPP Crime Unit continue to investigate and is asking anyone who may have seen Mr. Greenman, or have any information on his whereabouts to please contact the Espanola OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1800-222-8477.
