Goulais River, Ont.,

It appears that the annual tradition of the smelt run, people drinking, and damage to the environment has once again begun.

This morning at about 1:30 a.m. OPP were called to one of the many smelt catching areas in Goulais River after receiving complaints from area residents.

It appears that a group of noisy and underage teens had gathered at one area near Whiskey Bay. It is alleged that they were drinking and throwing bottles and other objects into the water. Of course non of the offenders were from that area otherwise they may have realized that this is the same water that locals use for their homes, camps and for their children to play in.

Officers attended the area and charged three 16, 17 and 18 year males from Sault Ste Marie with liquor related offences.
