JOINT FORCES RAID NETS DRUGS AND STOLEN GUN

A police raid on a Heyden home yesterday has resulted in the recovery of a stolen firearm and three types of illegal drugs

Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Joint Forces Drug Unit and members of the Sault Ste Marie O.P.P. Crime Unit executed a search warrant at 130 Old Mill Road in Heyden yesterday. Officers recovered a 22 caliber assault rifle that was reported stolen from Sault Ste. Marie earlier this year.

Officers also recovered a small quantity of marihuana, cannabis resin(hash) and oxycodone.

As a result of this search warrant, three male occupants of the home now face several charges. Twenty-six-year old Kim Danz, twenty-four-year old Dave Bertin and twenty-two-year old Erin Nicholson were arrested and charged. All three face charges of drug possession, possession of stolen property, careless storage of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a permit.

Kim Danz also faces a charge of possession of a firearm while prohibited from doing so. Mr. Bertin and Nicholson were released with conditions and Mr. Danz is being held for a bail hearing this afternoon.


BATCHAWAWNA FIRST NATION BREAK AND ENTERS

The Batchawana First Nation Police are investigating two break and enters.

Yesterday a home on Bear Creek Rd was entered and the interior of the house was vandalized. The culprits took food products and sprayed them all over the interior walls of the home. The OPP Forensic Identification Unit attended this scene and conducted an extensive examination.

The occupants of the house are still attempting to determine exactly what was stolen from them.

In a second investigation the Batchawana First Nation Police are also investigating the theft of tools and equipment from a garage on Gran Street. This investigation has determined that someone entered the garage and took a large amount of power tools and hand tools.
