Motor Vehicle Collision Claims Two Lives

(Municipality of Markstay Warren, Ont.) Members of the Warren Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are continuing their investigation into a two vehicle collision that occurred on at 2:20 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, August 3rd, 2006 on Highway 17, near the Pioneer Road turnoff, in the Municipality of Markstay Warren.

It appears that a westbound pick up truck with four occupants, crossed the centre line for unknown reasons and struck an eastbound mini van carrying two people.

The driver of the mini van, Kolin Northorp, age 33, of St. Charles, ON, was pronounced dead at the scene. His fifteen year old son suffered minor injuries and was treated and later released from hospital.

Two occupants were taken to Joseph’s Health Centre in Sudbury by air ambulance and the other three occupants were taken by land ambulance. The Warren Markstay Fire Department also attended the scene for extrication.

The driver of the westbound truck, William Ziminski, age 73 of Sudbury, ON succumbed to his injuries later in hospital. His spouse who was a passenger, suffered serious injuries and remains in critical condition. His other two passengers were his two grandchildren, age 13 & 16. One of the grandchildren also remains in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The second grandchild suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from hospital.

The highway was closed for a total of eight hours while an OPP technical traffic collision investigator assisted with the investigation. A detour around the scene was set up for lighter traffic, other than large vehicles.

Officers are continuing their investigation into the collision.

Theft of Hammock in Goulais River


Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie detachment investigated a theft of a hammock from a residence in the 500 block of Highway 552 East in Goulais River yesterday. The theft occurred sometime overnight. It seems, as this is a yearly occurrence for this victim as this occurred last year as well. The hammock is valued at $150.00.

Found Bike in Goulais River

A kind citizen from Goulais River brought in a mountain bicycle yesterday that he found on highway 552 West. Anyone missing a bicycle is urged to contact the O.P.P. at 1-888-310-1122 or 945-6833 to claim it.
