FIRE IN SEARCHMONT

(Hodgins Twp., ON) – On Thursday, the 12th February at 03:30 am OPP along with the Searchmont Fire Department attended a fire located at 15 Hult Road in Hodgins Twp.

The vacant residence was completely destroyed by fire.

A residence located to the east at 11 Hult Road received minor fire damage to the east side of the building. Two tenants in this building who were sleeping at the time were awakened by a male who was returning from work at 4:15 am and observed the fire.

The cause of the fire is yet undetermined. It is believed to be electrical.

The investigation is continuing. There were no injuries.

HIT AND RUN

(Aweres Twp., ON) – OPP are investigating damage to a pick up truck that was parked at a residence on Olsen Drive in Aweres Township.

At approximately 8:50 pm yesterday evening the owner heard a crash outside his residence. When he looked out his window he observed a dark colour extend cab truck travelling northbound. The vehicle may have had a plow on the front of it.

DRIVER CHARGED FOR DRINKING AND DRIVING

(Vankoughnet Twp., ON – Yesterday evening at approximately 9:30 pm an OPP officer on patrol on Highway 17 in Vankoughnet Township was approached by a southbound motorist advising that a vehicle was in the northbound ditch as a result of attempting a U-turn on the highway.

The OPP officer drove northbound and observed a black 1999 2-door Pontiac Grand Prix stuck in the northbound shoulder snow bank. The lights were on and the key was in the ignition on the vehicle.

The officer then observed a male running up the southbound shoulder towards the Zone Road House parking lot.

When approached by the officer the male (allegedly) admitted to being the driver of the vehicle. Signs of alcohol impairment were present.

The driver, 39 year old Anthony BRUNETTA of 23 Heidi Crescent Aweres Township was subsequently arrested and charged with Driving with over 80 mgs. Of Alcohol and Driving while under Suspension.

BRUNETTA was released on a Promise to Appear for Court on the 30th March 2009.
