Break and Enter Investigations Spawn Further Charges

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The Month of January has been a busy one for the East Algoma O.P.P. Elliot Lake Detachment. Investigations into break and enters and thefts from vehicles between August and December 2006 in the City of Elliot Lake has lead to a multitude of Criminal Code charges and warnings under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Charged as a result of this investigation 7 Young persons who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. These young persons have been charged with:

- 15 counts of Break and enter,
- 11 counts of Possession of Stolen Property,
- 2 counts of theft,
- 2 counts of breach of Probation,
- 1 count of Assault,
- 1 count of Mischief under $5000.00,
- 1 count of Fail to appear in court,
- 1 count of fail to comply with a release document

Fourty (40) formal cautions were issued under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. in regard to thefts and attempted thefts from vehicles.

Also charged as a result of this investigation are:

1. Ashley PARK age 19 years of Hamilton Ontario – 14 counts of Fraud and 1 count of Poss. of Stolen Prop.

2. Kenneth Chaffey age 19 years of Elliot Lake Ontario- 1 count Poss. Stolen Prop.

3. Cory Victor Suomi age 21 years of Hamilton Ontario –
arrest warrant issued for 1 count of Break and Enter.


First appearance court dates commence on February 6th, 2007 in Elliot Lake Provincial court. Due to the number of individuals involved their court dates will vary throughout the next couple of months.
