ONE KILLED IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
A fatal accident has occurred on Highway 17 just west of Blind River. Larry Brien James, age 33 of Muncey, Ontario (near London), was struck by an eastbound car as he crossed from the north side of the highway near Willy's Gas Bar on the Mississauga First Nation Territory.

Mr. James was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Blind River where he died of his injuries.

Horst Dinter, age 74 of Sault Ste. Marie, the driver of the vehicle, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

One lane of Highway 17 was closed for a short time. The accident occurred about 5:20 this morning. The Blind River detachment of the O.P.P. is investigating with assistance from technical investigators.


MOOSE-TRUCK COLLISION
Batchawana, Ont.

A 5-ton truck collided with a moose on Highway 17 North on Wednesday at 6:00 a.m. The animal ran onto the highway and could not be avoided by the truck driver. The truck was heavily damaged and had to be towed off the highway. Sault O.P.P. say no one was injured but the moose was killed by the impact.


LOOSE DOG ATTACKS YOUNG CYCLIST
Goulais River

A young boy narrowly escaped injury Wednesday when he was chased and attacked by a dog that was not tied up. At about 11:30 a.m. the 14-year-old boy was riding his bile on Pine Shores Road in Goulais River. A large mixed breed dog came running after the boy and tried to bite him. The dog lunged at the boy, got a hold of his shirt and ripped it. The youth continued riding home without further incident.

The owner of the animal was located although the victim and his caregivers requested that police not lay charges.


REAR END COLLLISION.
Echo Bay, Ont.

No one was injured in a collision at the intersection of Hwy 17 and 63B. The first vehicle came to a stop because the driver thought a pedestrian was going to cross the highway in front of him. The driver of the second vehicle was unable to stop and ploughed into the stopped vehicle.

Fifty-nine-year-old Frank Broomhead of Chapleau was charged with following too close. There were no injuries. Both vehicles had major damage and had to be towed.


DEER & PICK-UP COLLIDE
Laird Twp., Ont.

A collision between a pick-up and a deer east of Echo Bay has put a delay in the travel plans of a man from Rhode Island. At about 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the man was travelling west on Hwy 17 on the four-lane section when he collided with a deer. His 1994 pick-up was heavily damaged and had to be towed.

The 28-year-old Rhode Island resident was not injured.
