Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Hwy 17, Labelle Twp

(WAWA, ON)  – At 12:50 am on Friday March 16th 2012, officers of the Superior East Wawa OPP detachment responded to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 17 near Barrett River, approximately 75 kilometres south of the Town of Wawa.

Upon arrival, a 59 yr old male passenger of the vehicle, David BEITH of Tarbutt Township Ontario was found deceased. The male driver, Fred BEITH (55 yrs) of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario was transported by ambulance to local hospital in Wawa with non-specific injuries and subsequently flown to hospital in Sault Ste Marie.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators attended the scene to assist Superior East Officers with their investigation of the collision. The southbound lane of Highway 17 remained closed until approximately 9:30 am this date during this investigation.

The driver was charged with Careless Driving pursuant to the Highway Traffic Act

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARREST

Breach of Conditon

(Garden River First Nation, ON) – At 11:45 am yesterday morning, OPP stopped a van for speeding travelling westbound on Highway 17B.

Investigation revealed that the female driver was in breach of condition from a previous drug related charge in another jurisdiction.

Twenty-seven year old Tara MacLaurin of Thunder Bay, Ontario was arrested and charged with Breach of Recognizance for possessing an electronic device.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear for Provincial court in Sault Ste. Marie on April 25, 2012.  

BREAK AND ENTER REPORTED

(Aweres Twp., ON) – a property near Highway 17 in Aweres Township was broken into.

Ten storage units had the doors kicked open.

Only one unit was entered, and missing items included clothing, suitcases, and tools.
