Police Remind Motorist to Lock Cars

Sault Ste Marie OPP received a complaint of a case of beer being taken from an unlocked car in the parking lot of Dinelles Grocery in Echo Bay Thursday evening at around 5:55p.m. A recent purchase was put in the back seat of the victims car and the car was left unlocked. This theft occurred over a very short period of time. The OPP wish to remind vehicle owners to lock their unattended vehicle at all times, even in your own driveways. It only takes a few minutes for a theft to occur. These thefts are crimes of opportunity and rarely occur from a locked vehicle, unless valuable property is left in plain sight. As spring approaches and more youth are out and about, rummaging through unlocked cars is an annual problem. If you see suspicious activity do not hesitate to call the police. Anyone with information on this or any crime can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
