HWY 17 NORTH RE-OPENED -- FOR NOW Sault Ste Marie, Ont., Hwy 17, north of Sault Ste Marie, from Heyden through to Wawa has just been re-opened to traffic. Visibility remains limited and the highway is snow covered and slippery.

Hwy 17, north of Sault Ste Marie, from Heyden through to Wawa has just been re-opened to traffic.

Visibility remains limited and the highway is snow covered and slippery.

With the prediction of the snow to turn to rain and freezing rain in the next several hours, OPP and MTO will continue to monitor the condition of the highway

If you have to travel that section of the Trans Canada highway please slow down and use common sense and caution


SAULT STE MARIE OPP CANINE HANDLER "SNIFFS" OUT IMPAIRED

The Sault Ste Marie OPP canine handler was successful in "sniffing" out a impaired driver early yesterday morning.

At about 8:00 a.m. Cst Jan Nickle, the canine handler for Sault Ste Marie OPP, was southbound on Hwy 17 in the Heyden area. He noticed a northbound pick-up truck crossing the center line into the path of southbound traffic.

Cst Nickle turned around and stopped the northbound vehicle and found that the
