R.I.D.E.

Sault Ste Marie Detachment officers have conducted R.I.D.E. at 10 different locations so far during the month of March. Officers have checked 279 vehicles. There have been 2- 12 hours suspensions issued, 3 Highway traffic act charges, and one person found to have a suspended drivers license. Two traffic warnings have also been issued. Sault Ste Marie detachment officers will be attempting to conduct R.I.D.E. and aggressive enforcement of Rules of the Road and Seatbelt Violations of the Highway Traffic Act as part of their daily patrol activities. Last year one of the fatal collisions investigated by the detachment was caused by a impaired driver. This year the 1 person who died in a February collision may have lived had they been wearing a seatbelt. The OPP are hoping to reduced the carnage on our highways through year- round strict targeted enforcement and public education. So please slow down, use a designated driver and wear your seatbelt, the life you save may be your own.
