NOTIFICATION OF COUNTERFEIT MONEY CIRCULATION

(MacDonald Twp., Ont.) Counterfeit money of $5.00 denominations have been received by several businesses in the Echo Bay area over the past several days.

Genuine bank notes have security features that are reliable, and quick and easy to use.

To verify that your money is real, here are some simple tips:

- Touch the raised surfaces on your money (e.g. the large number).
- Tilt your money and look for the changing colors and images (e.g. the holographic stripe on new Canadian Journey series $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 notes; the square color-change patch on older series $20, $50 and $100 notes).
- Look through your money for a watermark portrait, a windowed security thread, and a see-through number (only on the new Canadian Journey series $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 notes).
- Look at your money for the fine-line printing in the portrait and background patterns.

Remember, checking all bank notes is a good business practice. You protect your money and eliminate opportunities for counterfeiters.
