HIGHWAY #11 CLOSED THIS MORNING FOR A TRACTOR TRAILER COLLISION

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is at the scene of a tractor trailer crash that took place just after 6:00am on November 17, 2011. Two tractor trailers were traveling side by side north on Highway #11 north of Highway #141. At one point in their travels they side swiped each other, causing one to jackknife and go into the west ditch. The other managed to carry on up the road and get stopped.

As a result of the crash Huntsville OPP have closed the highway and are rerouting northbound traffic on Mary Lake Road, Port Sydney up Greer Road to Stephenson Rd #8.

The visibility at the time of the crash was poor. There were no injuries reported to either driver of the tractor trailers.

Huntsville OPP advises that due to a diesel spill, the Ministry of Environment has been called in to assist in the investigation. The highway will be closed until further notice to enable the tow truck drivers to safely remove the tractor trailer from the highway.

The visibility on the highways is sporadic in the Muskoka area, along with slippery road conditions. Huntsville OPP would like to caution drivers to take their time in their travels today and to check the road conditions before heading out.

CONFRONTATION NETS SEVERAL CHARGES FOR LOCAL MALE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – November 12, 2011 at approximately 3:23 a.m. officers of the East Algoma OPP received a call regarding a possible assault.

Police attended the area of Hart Road in Elliot Lake. On scene police learned that the suspect had attended the area and confronted the victim. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim.

Charged with the following is Matthew RICHER (19) of Elliot Lake.

Assault with a Weapon
Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Utter Treat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
Breach of Probation

The accused is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on January 3, 2012.
