UPDATE - Motor Vehicle Collision – Hwy. 144

(Sudbury) – At 10:25 a.m. this morning, officers from the Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 144, approximately 5 kilometres north of Cartier, Moncrieff Township.

Few details are known at this time as the investigation is continuing. The collision involved a northbound 5-tonnes truck, loaded with building supplies and a southbound tractor-trailer. Both drivers were taken to St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Sudbury by ambulance and suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. Road conditions at the time were slushy. Both vehicles were destroyed in the collision.

The collision caused a diesel spill of approximately 200 gallons. The Ministry of Environment was notified and the Cartier Fire Department attended the scene to assist with the spill.

The highway was re-opened shortly after to one lane intermittently until both vehicles could be removed from the scene.

The highway is now open in both direction of travel.
