SEAT BELT USE PREVENTS SERIOUS INJURIES IN CRASH

Goulais River, Ont.,

OPP officers that investigated an early morning crash on Hwy 17 yesterday believe that the use of seat belts by both occupants saved them from serious injuries.

On Thursday 31 August 2006 at about 1:00 a.m. a car was southbound on Hwy 17 entering the rock cut just north of Havilland Shores Drive. The vehicle was traveling at highway speed when the car left the pavement and onto the stone shoulder. When the driver brought the car back onto the paved portion the car lost control and slid sideways across the highway. The car entered the northbound shoulder and stuck the rock face and then rolled over.

The driver and passenger were transported to Sault and Area Hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. Officers believe that the two occupants of the car are alive today, and not seriously injured, because they both used their seat belts.

The car was destroyed and was towed from the scene. No charges were laid in this investigation.
