5 RIDE Checks Result in Numerous Charges

RIDE checks conducted by Sault Ste Marie Detachment and Traffic and Marine Officers resulted in numerous charges. Offices conducted RIDE on Thursday evening in 5 separate locations in the Sault Ste Marie OPP patrol area, checking 325 vehicles. One seatbelt , 2 liquor act and 2 people were charged with drug related charges and one person was charge for failure to produce evidence of insurance.

While conducting RIDE at 10:11 p.m. on Hwy#17 in Garden River First Nation, OPP officers stopped a vehicle which they searched for open liquor. Found in the vehicle was 5 pills suspected to be Ecstacy and 11 1gm packs of suspected cocaine. Charged with Possession for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance act and driver permit open liquor contrary to the liquor license act is Andrew W Tabaczuk age 27 of Ottawa. Also in the vehicle and charged with Possession for the purpose of trafficking 5(2) CSDA and having open liquor is David Stadnik age 26 of Brampton.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision: UPDATE

Members of the Superior East OPP Detachment in Wawa are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway # 17 in the area of the Montreal River, approximately one (1) hour north of Sault Ste Marie.

Preliminary Investigation reveals that at approximately 04:00 am a Northbound Tractor Trailer Unit for yet to be determined reasons left the roadway entering a deep ravine. The lone driver, a 52 year old male from Alberta was fatally injured. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

At the location of the collision there will be intermittent Highway closures throughout the day. The OPP will update the public if any major changes occur related to the Highway closures.

UPDATE: 3:30PM, 13 SEP.

52 year old Patrick ROWAN of Forestburg Alberta was the driver of the tractor trailer owned by Northern Industrial Carriers Ltd. of Edmonton Alberta. Mr. ROWAN was the lone occupant of the truck.

Superior East OPP, Wawa, are continuing their investigation with the assistance of Northeast Region Identification Officers and Technical Traffic Collision Investigators. A post mortem will be conducted in Sault Ste Marie on Friday Sep 14th.

TWO CHARGED FOR DRUGS

(Garden River First Nations, Ont.) Two out of town men have been charged with drug offences while going through an OPP RIDE checkstop.

On Thursday 13 September, 2007, Sault Ste Marie OPP Detachment members had set up a RIDE checkstop at the intersection of Hwy 17/Trunk Rd and the new highway. As a result of a vehicle being stopped and checked, it was suspected that the driver had been drinking. Spirits and beer were located in the vehicle as well as a quantity of ecstasy and cocaine.

Twenty seven year old Andrew TABACZUK of Ottawa and twenty six year old David STADNIK of Brampton were arrested. Mr. TABACZUK was charged with Having Care or Control under the Liquor Licence Act, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of a Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. Mr. STADNIK was charged with Having Liquor in an Open Container under the Liquor Licence Act and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
