Marihuana Seizure and Charges Laid

(Spanish Ontario.) – On Tuesday September 15, 2009 members of the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau-Drug Enforcement Unit-Sault Ste Marie, assisted by the East Algoma detachment of the OPP, stopped a vehicle on Highway 17, near Spanish. Inside the vehicle, officers located approximately five (5) pounds of marihuana, a loaded 12 gauge sawed-off shotgun and $1115 cash. The driver was arrested at the scene and transported to the East Algoma OPP detachment.

A subsequent search of the driver’s Spanish residence resulted in the seizure of an additional four (4 ) pounds of marihuana, 445 grams of cannabis resin, two long guns, and associated evidence in relation to marihuana growing.

The total approximate street value of the drugs seized is $104,000.00.

Charged is: Paul Fecteau aged 68 of Spanish, Ontario.

Charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Criminal Code include:
1. Production of Marihuana
2. Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking (3 counts)
3. Possession of cannabis resin (hashish)
4. Possession of Property obtained by Crime
5. Breach of Firearms Regulation
6. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
7. Possession of a Prohibited Firearm

Paul Fecteau is currently in custody in Sault Ste Marie pending a bail hearing on 22 September 2009.
