Impaired charges laid after single-vehicle crash in Laird

Sault Ste. Marie OPP have laid impaired driving charged against a MacDonald Meredith Aberdeen Township man after a single-vehicle crash in Laird.

Police say they responded to the collision on Government Road on Saturday.

In a news release issued this afternoon, police stated the driver was arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation Justin Campbell, 26, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC and,
  • Novice Driver - B.A.C. above zero, contrary to section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on Aug. 16, 2021.

The accused was issued a 90 day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
