Impaired charges laid after vehicle crashes into ditch

Police say they found the driver to be impaired after the single-vehicle crash

East Algoma OPP say they've arrested someone for impaired driving after an incident that took place yesterday afternoon.

Police say they responded to a single-motor vehicle crash around 2 p.m. on Monday, where a pick-up truck ended up in a ditch on Lakeshore Drive in Tarbutt-Tarbutt Additional Township, just east of the Sault.  

While speaking to the driver, the officer determined that the driver had consumed alcohol. The accused was arrested, had thier driver's licence suspended and the vehicle was towed and impounded.  

As a result, William Lockwood, 65, of Thunder Bay, was charged with:  

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and with 
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Aug. 27, 2020.
