A 48-year-old St. Joseph Township man was charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling house according to a news release from the Batchewana First Nation Police Service.

Officers responded July 1 shortly after 12:30 p.m. to a break-and-enter complaint at a residence on Tecumseh Street in the community of Batchewana First Nation.

An investigation determined two people were trespassing in a vacant house and a verbal altercation took place with the owner. Once police were called, one of the individuals fled and the other remained at the scene, the release said.

As a result, John Turner was arrested and charged.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on Aug.14.
