THESSALON - On April 27, 2020 at approximately 7 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a landlord tenant dispute at an apartment complex on Federation Street in the Town of Thessalon.

[It is alleged that] the owner had a gentleman's agreement with a tenant to get work completed in one of the units. The work wasn't completed and personal items were left in the empty unit making it not rentable. An argument ensued where the owner was threatened.

As a result of the investigation, on April 28, 2020, Richard Maki, age 56 of Thessalon, was arrested and charged with:

  • uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

The accused was released by way of Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 2, 2020.
