Man faces drug charges following traffic stop

BLIND RIVER – East Algoma OPP say they've arrested someone for drug charges after an incident that took place on Friday. 

Police say that around approximately 9:30 a.m., they saw a vehicle speeding eastbound on Causely St. and initiated a traffic stop. The officer speaking to the accused alledegly smelled cannabis and upon a search of the vehicle, found over seven grams of suspected Purple Heroin (estimated value of over $3500).  

As a result, Sidney Charles, 38 years-of-age, from Scarborough, was charged with:  

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance-Heroin, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and with  
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance-Opioid (other that heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.   

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 5 in Blind River.  

The driver, Ian Gordon, 38, of Mississauga, was issued a ticket and charged with speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.
