COCHRANE — An off-duty OPP officer made an arrest after a masked intruder tried to break into their garage.
Around 8 p.m. on May 10, James Bay OPP was called after an off-duty officer arrested a suspect, who was wearing a mask, and trying to break into a garage in Cochrane.
When on-duty officers arrived at the scene, they continued the arrest. During a search, break-in instruments were located.
A 30-year-old from Cochrane is charged with:
- Break and enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence
- Fail to comply with probation order
- Possession of break in instruments
- Disguise with intent
The accused is in police custody. They were slated to appear in court today in Cochrane.
"The OPP would like to remind the public that locking the doors of your residence and vehicles can deter would-be criminals an easy opportunity to take your belongings or invade your privacy," the OPP said in a news release. "Lock it up and keep your property safe."
