FATAL COLLISION (Latchford, Ontario) Members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are presently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving two transport trucks that occurred at approximately 5:39 a.m.
FATAL COLLISION

(Latchford, Ontario) Members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are presently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving two transport trucks that occurred at approximately 5:39 a.m. April 12, 2010. The collision involving two transport trucks occurred approximately 11 km south of the Town of Latchford, one of the transport trucks was going northbound and the other was going southbound. The driver of one of the transports was killed in the collision and the other was transported to the Temiskaming Hospital by ambulance for undetermined injuries. Names are being withheld until family members have been contacted.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators from the Northeast Region Highway Safety Division are investigation the motor vehicle collision. The Ministry of Environment has been contacted as some fuel has leaked into the ditches. Highway 11 in both directions is presently closed and is expected to be closed for some time as the investigation is ongoing. Updates will be forth coming as further information is gathered. VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

$38,000.00 CASH SEIZED FROM VEHICLE


(Vankoughnet Twp., ON) – On the 10 April, 2010 at approximately 2:20 pm an OPP officer travelling northbound on Highway 17 in Vankoughnet Township observed a white 2004 Jeep Cherokee travelling southbound at a high rate of speed, in excess of 131 km/hr in a posted 90 km/hr zone.

While speaking with the driver the officer detected a strong odour of marihuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Further investigation revealed approx. 2 grams of marihuana buds sealed in a plastic sandwich baggie. Further search of the vehicle revealed that the spare tire located at the rear of the passenger seat had a large cut and contained what is believed to be several raw Marihuana flakes inside of it.

A black pac sack located in the vehicle contained a grocery bag full of bundles of money rapped with elastic bands, totalling approximately $38,000.00.

The driver, Casey George JACOB, 22 years old of Willwood Drive Ottawa, Ontario was arrested and charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Drug and Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act and was also charged with Speeding.

The passenger, Steven G Hunter, 22 years old of Battell St. in Cobourg, Ontario was arrested and charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Drug and Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

Both were released on a Promise to Appear of court on 07 June, 2010.

The vehicle and the money have been seized pending a proceeds of crime investigation.
