(MacDonald Twp., Ont.) Sometime within the past two weeks a residence in the 3000 block of Highway 17 in MacDonald Township was broken into and ransacked.

The house had been vacant as the owner had passed away and was being looked after by family members.

The gunsafe had been pulled away from the wall it was bolted to and pryed open.

Stolen items included 4 firearms; one restricted semi-automatic handgun, one bolt action rifle, one pump action rifle, and one bolt action shotgun.

DRIVER FACES SEVERAL CHARGES

(Thessalon, Ontario) On Sunday April 13, 2008 a member of the East Algoma Thessalon OPP stopped a motor vehicle at the Junction of Highway 17 and 129, Thessalon, Ontario.

The driver Kevin E. THOMAS (33) of Thessalon, Ontario faces the following charges under the Criminal Code of Canada:

Operate Motor Vehicle while Impaired, Section 253(a) and
Operate Motor Vehicle – Over 80 mgs, Section 253 (b)

Thomas also faces several other charges, which include:

Driver fail to properly wear seatbelt – Highway Traffic Act
Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor – Liquor Licence Act
Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit – Highway Traffic Act, and
Operate a motor vehicle without insurance – Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

Thomas was released on a Promise To Appear in Thessalon Court on June 26, 2008 to answer to the Criminal Charges.


DRIVING TOO FAST CAN REALLY SLOW YOU DOWN

(Garden River First Nation, Ont.) On Thursday, April 10th around 4:00 pm an OPP officer conducting stationary radar patrol on Highway 17 near Belleau Lake Road stopped a Toyota Camry car traveling westbound at an excessive rate of speed.

The driver was clocked at a speed of 175 km/hr! The posted speed limit in this area is 90 km/hr.

Charged under the stunt driving legislation is Hugh LOUGHEED, 68 years, of 108 Allard St., Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

Mr. LOUGHEED had his driver’s license suspended for 7 days and his vehicle impounded for 7 days at the scene. He received a summons for court for 14th May 2008.

DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE LEADS TO CRIMINAL CHARGES

(Aweres Twp, Ont.) On Friday, 11th April 2008 OPP were called to Rupert Acres Trailer Park.

The victim had returned home with her three children on Thursday, 10th April 2008 at around 3:30 pm.

The victim alleges that her ex-common law spouse who was on release conditions from a prior incident not to communicate directly or indirectly with her, had been found hiding in the closet at her residence.

The accused prevented the victim from leaving the residence but she eventually escaped into her vehicle. The accused followed and got into the passenger seat preventing her from driving away.

The accused allegedly became violent toward the victim and punched out the front windshield of the vehicle. The accused then fled the area.

On Sunday, April 13th, 2008 the accused attended at the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Detachment and turned himself in.

The male was charged with one count of Breach of Undertaking, Mischief under $5000.00, and Forcible Confinement.

He is being held in custody pending a Bail Hearing today.

MALE IN CUSTODY FOR ASSAULT CAUSING BODILY HARM

(Batchewana First Nation, Ont.) On Saturday, the 12th April 2008 OPP were called to a residence on Frontenac Street around 1:00 am.

Police arrived at the residence and observed a male with non-life threatening injuries.


The victim alleges that when he asked the accused to help him clean up in the kitchen the accused became angry and physically assaulted the victim by punching and kicking him several times. The accused then left the residence.

The OPP located the accused a short time later walking on Highway 638 near the Root River Bridge.

Arrested and charged with one count of Assault Cause Bodily Harm under the Criminal Code of Canada is Caleb Stephen PERREAULT, 51 years, of 18 Charles Road, Garden River First Nation.

PERRAULT was held in custody pending a Bail Hearing today.

Driver Charged with Exceeding 50 km/hr over the Speed Limit:

Members of the Superior East O.P.P. Detachment ( Chapleau – Hornepayne – Wawa – White River) continue to patrol Highways and Roadways in the area to ensure that those driving on them do so in a manner that is within the rules of the road that are set out in the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

On the 08th of April 2008 a Superior East O.P.P. ( Wawa) officer was conducting radar patrol on Hwy #17 in Hunt Twp. At approx. 7:00 p.m. a single northbound 2004 Lexus automobile was locked on radar at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was charged

Jeffery S. DUPERRON ( age 24) of Bethany Lane, Rochester Twp. Ontario is charged with: Race a Motor Vehicle : Speeding 141 km/hr in a posted 90km/hr zone He appears in court later this Spring

Those people that are charged under Sec 172 of the Highway Traffic Act. with driving at a rate of speed that is at 50 km/hr over the posted speed limit will have:

• Their licence immediately suspended for seven days.
• The vehicle will be impounded immediately for seven days. (Even if the driver is not the owner or the vehicle is rented or borrowed)
• The driver is responsible for the towing and storage costs.
• Those convicted of Sec 172 of Highway Traffic Act are liable to a fine of not less than $2,000.00, the possibility of a jail sentence of not more than six months as well a further driver’s licence suspension.


Drugs Intercepted … Again !

(Blind River, Ont.) East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police officers executed a traffic stop on Causley St. in Blind River and intercepted 3 persons carrying a substantial quantity of drugs and cash.

Just before 10:00 p.m. officers conducted a stop and discovered that one occupant had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Subsequent to the arrest officers found two large plastic bags containing in excess of $32,000. Further investigation led to the discovery of just under.5 kilos of marihuana.

Charged are:

Joseph Sydney SHEDLER, 33-years of 196 Burton Av. Barrie, Ontario

Chrg: Proceeds of Crime, possession of Controlled Drug for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Controlled Substance

Jeremy Wallace GAUVIN, 32 years of 11th Ln Hawkstone, Ontario

Chgd; Possession for the Purpose of trafficking, Possession of Controlled substance

Jean-Sebastien GAGNON, 24 years 3760 Malo Av, Brossard, Quebec

Chgd: possession of a Controlled substance

Gagnon and Gauvin have been held in custody pending Bail hearing on 14 April in Sault Ste. Marie

SHEDLER will be released on bail pending the arrival of a Cash Surety and will be returning to Court in Blind River on 01 May 08.
