C.A.R.S COUNTING

Echo Bay, Ont.,

On Friday 20 April 23, 2007 officers with the Sault Ste Marie and Thessalon OPP Detachments assisted the Central Algoma Road Safety Committee (C.A.R.S.) with a traffic survey.

For one hour on Friday afternoon members of the committee and OPP officers conducted a seat belt count at the intersection of Hwy 17 and Hwy 638 in Echo Bay. In an effort to get a true picture of the actual seat belt use, members stood off the side of the roadway and noted if the drivers of all vehicles were wearing seat belts or not.

In the one hour that volunteers counted the vehicles, members of C.A.R.S came up with some interesting results. Of the 427 vehicles that passed by that intersection, 26 drivers were not wearing seat belts.

The Central Algoma Road Safety Committee and the OPP once again remind all motorists of the tragic results of not using your seatbelts.
