12 Hour Suspension (WHITE RIVER) – On April 24, 2009 at 1:54 pm officers had occasion to stop a vehicle for speeding just south of White River on Highway 17. Officers, upon speaking to the male driver, noted the smell of alcohol on his breath.

(WHITE RIVER) – On April 24, 2009 at 1:54 pm officers had occasion to stop a vehicle for speeding just south of White River on Highway 17. Officers, upon speaking to the male driver, noted the smell of alcohol on his breath. As a result of an “Alert” reading on a Roadside Alco-Test a 64 year old Michigan resident received a 12 hour Driver’s Licence suspension as well as a Provincial Offence Notice for Speeding.

Breach of Probation

(CHAPLEAU) – On April 25, 2009 at 1:37 am while officers were conducting RIDE in Chapleau the overheard some yelling and swearing nearby. Upon investigation two individuals were causing a disturbance. Subsequent investigation resulted in an 18 year old female from Brunswick House First Nations being charged with “Being Intoxicated in a Public Place”. A 17 year old young male from Chapleau has also been charged with “Breach of Probation” as a result of the same incident.

R.I.D.E. – Officers conducted several RIDE checks throughout the Superior East patrol area resulting in 520 vehicles being checked with no infractions noted.

ONE ARREST ON PHARMACY BREAK AND ENTER

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) In the early morning hours of the 18th April 2009 Elliot Lake OPP responded to an alarm at the Freitag's Drug Store situated on Prince Edward Walk in Elliot Lake.

Upon Officer’s attending it was found that a Break and Enter had occurred but no suspects were found in the area. Police found damage to a front window and entry was gained.

As a result of further investigation police arrested and charged Jonathan Richard CLARKE (22) of Elliot Lake with Break Enter with Intent.

CLARKE has been released and is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake Criminal Court June 2, 2009.

LOCAL BUSINESS ON ELIZABETH WALK VICTIM OF BREAK AND ENTER

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a break and enter on Elizabeth Walk in Elliot Lake.

Police learned that sometime between the 23rd of April 2009 at 5:00 p.m. and the 24th of April 2009 at 8:40 a.m. person(s) unknown broke into the rear door entrance of the business. The culprit(s) forced open the rear metal door thus gaining access to the common area of two businesses. The suspect(s) then attempted to force open the rear doors of the two businesses thus causing damage but not gaining access to the businesses.

LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VICTIM OF MISCHIEF

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) On April 23, 2009 police attended an elementary school on Mississauga Avenue regarding the school being spray-painted. On scene the investigating officer learned that unknown person(s) had spray painted the school and some benches with vulgar drawings and slogans.

The school personnel quickly painted over the graffiti to correct the damage.

BREAK ENTER AND THEFT

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) April 26, 2009 at approximately 1:50 a.m., while on general patrol an officer of the East Algoma OPP observed a door open to a business on Timber Road in Elliot Lake. Investigating revealed that unknown person(s) smashed a front window in the door thus allowing access to the deadbolt.

Once inside the culprit(s) attended the office area and removed several items from a desk.

BREAK ENTER AND THEFT AT OLD RIO DEN ARENA

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) Police are currently investigating a break enter and theft from the old Rio Den Arena on Dieppe Avenue in Elliot Lake.

Police received the call to attend the building on April 26, 2009 at approximately 2:41 a.m. On scene police noticed a small window broken. Investigation revealed that once inside the building the suspect(s) attended the computer room and removed several items.

Items taken were three flat screen monitors and one hard drive. Police have since recovered one monitor and the hard drive.
