The Ontario Provincial Police advise the public of the following road closure.

Location: Hwy 17 at Bald Head River. 45 Kms S of Wawa

Detachment area: Wawa

Time of road closure: 0845 hrs N/B Lane closed only.

Reason for the closure: Single Vehicle MVC

Detour: None

Estimated duration of closure: Traffic is being let through intermittently, but will be slow moving.

Time road reopened: 1750 hrs

ASSAULT CHARGES FOR LOCAL WOMAN

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) July 31st, 2008 at approximately 10:50 a.m. police received a call to attend the Hillside Plaza regarding a possible assault taking place.

On scene, police learned that the suspect assaulted the victim in front of a local restaurant.

Charged with Assault is Heather LEE (35) of Elliot Lake. LEE is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on October 7th, 2008.

ATV STOLEN

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating the theft of an ATV.

The victim reports parking his 2008 Kawasaki “Brute Force” ATV, marker 73MV3 behind his residence on McQuarrie Place in Elliot Lake. The ATV was stolen sometime between 09 August 08 at 10:00 p.m. and the morning or 10 August 08

STOLEN TRUCK RECOVERED AND MALE CHARGED

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police have arrested and charged a local male following an investigation regarding a stolen vehicle.

On August 3, 2008 at approximately 7:00 p.m. the East Algoma OPP received a complaint regarding a stolen truck from Spine Road in Elliot Lake. The vehicle was described as being a 1985 Chevrolet Pickup Truck, blue and sliver in color.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. the same evening police received a call of a motor vehicle collision up on Highway 546 in the township of Albanel. Police attended the area and located the driver and the stolen truck.

Charged with the following is Brandon Carl STARNYSKI (33) of Elliot Lake.

Theft Under $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000

STARNYSKI remains in custody.

MOTORCYCLE TAKEN DURING BREAK AND ENTER

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On July 31st, 2008 the East Algoma OPP received a call to attend 50 Hillside Drive South in the City of Elliot Lake regarding a possible break, enter and theft.

On scene police learned that sometime between the hours of 6:30 p.m. on July 30th, 2008 and 7:00 a.m. July 31st, 2008 suspect(s) gained entry into the garage area of the Canadian Tire store by breaking a window. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a 2007 Red/Black Baja Off Road motorcycle, Model DR70 valued at $700.00.

YOUTH COMPLAINT LEADS TO DRUG CHARGE

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On August 1, 2008 at approximately 6:30 p.m. police received a call to attend the area of Ottawa Avenue and Edinburg Road regarding a youth complaint.

Police located youths in the area of Paris Drive. Investigation revealed that one suspect was in possession of a controlled substance.

Charged with Possession of Cannabis Marihuana under 30 grams is Michael Patrick OWENS (19) of Elliot Lake. OWENS is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on October 7, 2008.

POLICE INVESTIGATING SEVERAL MISCHIEF CALLS

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP in Elliot Lake is currently investigating several mischief reports regarding damage to vehicles.

On July 31st, 2008 unknown person(s) smashed the side window of a vehicle with a rock. The vehicle was parked on Gauthier Place. The mischief allegedly occurred during the afternoon of July 31st, 2208.

Between July 31st, and August 1st, 2008 the front windshield of a vehicle parked on Axmith Avenue was damaged by a rock.

August 5th, 2008 Milltown Motors on Hillside Drive South reported to police that sometime between August 1st and August 5th, 2008 unknown person(s) caused damaged to two (2) separate vehicles parked in the lot. Damage to a door and window was caused by rocks.

Also reported on August 8, 2008 damage to the front end and a smashed window to a vehicle parked on Ottawa Avenue. Again caused by someone throwing a rock.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) While on general patrol on August 1, 2008 at approximately 11:15 p.m. a police officer of the East Algoma OPP conducted a traffic stop on Mountain Road. Resulting from the traffic stop the driver was charged.

Charged with Operate a Vehicle Over 80 is Blayr Lynda LEGRIS (21) of Elliot Lake. LEGRIS is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on October 7th, 2008.

High Pressure Sales…. Is it a Scam?

(Blind River, Ont.) East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police are advising the public to be aware of a possible scam regarding sales of a Water Filtration System.

On the 30 th July O.P.P. were alerted to suspicious activity on the part of traveling sales persons representing a company by the name of “Simple H2O” or “ Simply H2O “. Sales person are attending at residences and performing a demonstration regarding water quality in order to promote their filtration system. The persons are offering a substantial discount at the door???

Police are reminding people that if a deal sounds too good to be true then it probably is.
