(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating the theft of an All Terrain Vehicle. On August 10th, 2007 police attended a residence on Central Avenue in Elliot Lake and received information that unknown person(s) had attended the residence between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 pm. and removed a blue 2000 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4X4 ATV bearing Ontario marker TC502.

LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL VICTIM OF THEFT

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a break, enter and theft report. Police learned that sometime between June 29th, 2007 and July 4th, 2007 unknown person(s) broke into a shed located at the rear of the Elliot Lake Secondary School. Items taken were one red canoe and two propane barbecues.

TO REPORT IMPAIRED DRIVERS – CALL 9-1-1 OR *OPP

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On August 10th, 2007 at approximately 2:04 p.m. while on general patrol officers noted a vehicle turning off Hillside Drive South onto Highway 108 at which time the car went over the curb. Officers stopped the vehicle.

Charged with Impaired Operation and Over 80 is Wolfram WINTER (72) of Elliot Lake. WINTER is scheduled to appear in court on October 2nd, 2007.

DON’T FORGET TO LOCK YOUR VEHICLE!

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police are currently investigating a theft from a parked vehicle. Police learned that sometime during the evening of August 10th, 2007 and the morning of August 11th, 2007 unknown person(s) entered an unlocked vehicle at a residence on Hirshhorn Avenue and removed the following items:
Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver
2 Walkie Talkies
and a wallet.

THIS IMPARIED DRIVER WAS JUST A LITTLE OBVIOUS

(Searchmont, Ont.) A Sault Ste Marie woman has been charged with a drinking and driving offence after she was found passed out in her car.

Last night at about 11:30 p.m. officers from the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment were called to a car in the ditch on Hwy 556 just west of Searchmont. Officers arrived to find the two back wheels of the car suspended in the air. The female driver was still in the driver’s seat with the car still in gear. Officers noticed that she had vomited and was lying in her own vomit.

She was awakened by the officers to discover that the possible cause of her stomach illness may have been because she had been drinking.

Forty four (44) year old Pauline PAUZE, of 365 Second Avenue in Sault Ste Marie, has been charged with one count of Driving While Over the Legal Limit of .08 contrary to the Criminal Code. She will appear in court in September.

OFFICER NARROWLY MISSED BEING HIT BY DRUNK DRIVER

(Garden River First Nation, Ont.) An OPP officer with the Sault Ste Marie Detachment narrowly escaped being hit by another drunk driver this morning.

This morning at about 4:00 a.m. the officer was stopped on the shoulder of Hwy 17 in Garden River. The officer had just finished dealing with another unrelated matter when he was getting back into his cruiser. He looked in his rear view mirror to see another vehicle traveling on the shoulder, right at him, at high speeds.

The investigation has revealed that the offending vehicle was passing another vehicle on the gravel shoulder of the roadway. The officers floored his cruiser just fast enough to get out of the way of being rear ended by the car. The driver narrowly missed running into the back of the cruiser, then returned to the paved portion of the roadway and passed the marked police car. The car was quickly pulled over the officer determined that the driver had been drinking.

Eighteen year old Robert ROBINSON-PERREAULT of 23 Nebenaigoching Street, Batchewana First Nation faces five charges. He is charged under the Criminal Code with Impaired Driving and Driving While Over the Legal Limit of .08 . He was also charged with Drinking While Under Age and Having Open Liquor in a Vehicle contrary to the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario. The fifth charge is Driving With a Class G1 Licence With Blood/Alcohol Limit Above Zero.

Mr. Robinson-Perreault will start his court appearances on Sept 17 2007 in Sault Ste Marie.

Suspended Driver Discovered Through Traffic Stop

On the 09 August 07 at 9:35 p.m. Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment officer stopped a on Hwy#17 at Garden River First Nation. The operator of the vehicle Raymond Scott Evans age 35 of Sault Ste Marie has been charged with Driving Under suspension contrary to section 53 of the Highway Traffic Act. Mr. Evans had been drinking and was also issued a 12 hour suspension.

East Algoma’s Long Weekend - Enforcement Statistics

(Blind River, Ont.) East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police had planned for 18 officers and a traffic management officer to be working the Civic holiday weekend.
After dealing with the calls for service officers laid 210 Highway Traffic Act charges, primarily for speeding. There were a total of 8 motor vehicle collisions, seven(7) of which were classified as minor damage and 1 involved an ATV in which the driver sustained only minimal injuries.
On the Criminal side two (2) young persons were arrested for Possession of a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Sault Ste. Marie.

Staff Sgt. Whaley would like to remind members of the Public that even though the long weekend is gone members of the East Algoma O.P.P. are still here and will continue to patrol the highways and waterways.
Motorists are reminded to leave extra time while traveling to avoid any congestion that may occur.
