Laird Fair Theft Early Sunday morning officers were called to the Laird Fair regarding a theft.
Laird Fair Theft

Early Sunday morning officers were called to the Laird Fair regarding a theft. It appears that two young men had been enjoying the festivities until such time as they were spotted stealing daggers and lighters from a tent/booth, set up for retail purposes. The proprietor called to the young men to stop but they, of course, ran away. A short chase soon had the pair in custody awaiting the arrival of police. As was to be expected the pair denied any wrong doing to the bitter end. Even the discovery of property on their person which had been taken from the tent/booth, they were caught pilfering, only elicited a “how did that get there?” Had they checked the face of the investigator they would have realized that he was more than one day old. Consequently an 18-year-old boy from the Desbarats area and a 16-year-old lad from Thessalon will be facing theft charges.

Stolen Wood Splitter

A Finn’s bay road resident was not pleased on Saturday to discover that some dishonest soul had made off with his wood-splitter. It was a new splitter valued at approximately $2,200. The owner had last seen it the previous weekend. This splitter is described as being green and came equipped with a Honda 5hp motor, wheels, trailer hitch and tail lights. It probably was no great task for the thief to latch on and drive away with it. Too bad honesty and integrity could not be as easily gained by the culprit.

Bike Stolen From Girl

At Rupert Acres, north of the Sault, a thief deprived a young lady of the enjoyment of her bicycle. A 20-inch BMX style bicycle, painted cream with a white seat and pink handgrips was taken from her residence. The bike is valued at approximately $150.00.

Paintball Shooting

At 10:00 o’clock Saturday night someone, suffering a major deficit in the common sense department, apparently, felt it would be good sport to shoot at a house with a paint ball gun. Eleven times this house hunter left fly with a paint-balls striking windows and the siding on the structure. No permanent damage was done to the house. You have to wonder what the perpetrator of this act was thinking, don’t you? The investigation continues.

Windshield Smashed by a Rock Thrown from the Ditch

Another lapse in common sense occurred on the Bar River Road shortly after noon on Saturday. A motorist traveling that stretch had his vehicle windshield smashed by a rock thrown from the ditch. As could be expected the folks responsible did not wait around to admit to, or, make efforts to atone for this inane act. It is unfortunate that not knowing enough not to do such an act did not run hand in hand with not knowing enough to run away.

A traffic infraction on Highway 17 in Garden River piqued the interest of one of our officers early on Sunday morning. After the vehicle was stopped it was discovered that the driver had consumed alcohol in too large a quantity to be driving. Trevor LEMCKE has been charged with Drive Over .08.
