OPP Investigate 4 MVC’s over Weekend

1) Sault Detachment officers investigated a crash on Pumpkin Point Rd in Laird Twp. where 5 persons received minor injuries on the 24th of August at 6:25 a.m. Friday morning. A Ford windstar van lost control and went into the ditch. No charges were laid and seatbelt usage helped reduce the level of injuries.

2) On the 26th of August at midnight a collision with a wolf was reported. The crash occurred on Hwy#17 in Laird Township. The Toyota Carolla involved in the crash received minor damage and the wolf ran off.

3) On the 26the of August at 12:48 a.m. Sault detachment officers investigated a Deer Car MVC on Mission road in Goulais River. The deer was killed. The occupants of the car were not injured.

4) On the August 26 at 8:28 p.m. a two vehicle collision occurred on Hwy#17 near the Bingo Hall in Garden River. One person received minor injuries in the accident that involved a vehicle turning into Moccasin St on the Garden River First Nation. One person was charged with follow too close and one person charged with fail to signal turn. The drivers were also charged with for not wearing their seatbelts.

RIDE Results In Charges

This past weekend RIDE checks were conducted in two different locations. On the 25th at Marina Road in Aweres Twp. The operator of a vehicle stopped a the RIDE check failed a roadside test and was taken to the police station for a Breath Test. Charged with driving over the legal limit is Michael Gerrard Adam age 29 of Trout Lake Road in Awares Twp. Mr. Adam will appear in court on October 15th. A total of 102 vehicles were checked resulting in two liquor license act charges and three roadside test being conducted.

Stolen Truck Aweres Township

Sometime between 6:00 p.m. on the 24 and noon on the 25th of August a Green 97 Ford Extended Cab Truck was stolen from the driveway of 13 Maple drive in Awares township.

SUSPECT LOCATED IN RESIDENCE

(Blind River, Ont.) On August 26th, 2007 at approximately 11:02 p.m. officers of the East Algoma OPP received a call to attend a residence on Arsenault Rd, Mississauga First Nations regarding a Break and Enter and Mischief.

On scene police learned that the suspect was in the residence sleeping.

Charged with Break, Enter and Mischief is Sandy BOISSONEAU (29) of Garden River. BOISSONEAU is scheduled to appear in court on October 24th, 2007.

CAN YOU IDENTIFY THIS SUSPECT?

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On August 24, 2007 at approximately 11:20 a.m. police attended Bob’s No Frills on Mary Walk in Elliot Lake regarding a possible theft.

Investigation revealed that an unknown male entered the store, attended the meat area and left the store with a large quantity of meat under his arm. The suspect left the store without paying.

The male suspect is described as being between the ages of 30 and 40 years old, shaggy light hair, wearing a beige ball cap, shorts and t-shirts.

152 CHARGES LAID AT HEMPFEST 2007

(Havilah, Ontario) During the weekend members of the East Algoma Thessalon OPP, the East Algoma OPP Crime Unit and the Sault Ste. Marie Drug Enforcement Section held an extremely successfully three-day RIDE initiative in the small hamlet of Havilah, Ontario. The RIDE was held due to the heavy influx of traffic in the area during Hempfest 2007. Havilah is located approximately 30 kilometers north of Bruce Mines, Ontario.

As a result of this project, a multitude of charges were laid. These are the highlights of the charges:

CDSA (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act) – 32 charges
- most for possession of marijuana
- includes one large seizure of approx 2 lbs of marijuana whose owner was charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
- also, one seizure of psilocybin (magic mushrooms)

Criminal – 11 charges
- 4 weapons charges for possession of prohibited weapons (3 knives and 1 spiked wrist band)
-3 counts of breach of probation
- one Canada-wide warrant executed for breach X 5 on a young person

Liquor – 7 charges
- all for open liquor in a vehicle or minor person in possession of liquor

HTA (Highway Traffic Act) – 102 charges
- 17 suspended or unlicenced drivers charged
- 16 vehicles that were unfit for road / didn't have proper documentation taken off road and towed
- 5 roadside tests were administered

The Ontario Provincial Police advise the public of the following road closure.

Reason for the closure: Three vehicle motor vehicle collision. Two persons injured and taken to hospital.
