Batchewana Disturbance

There was a fight on Friday night at the Batchewana First Nation Rankin Site. Numerous young people were involved. At some point one of the combatants decided to throw some stones. Alas one of the stones struck a van parked near by. The stone entered through a rear window and exited through a side window. Approximately $2,000.00 damage was done. Batchewana First Nation Police are investigating.

Batchewana First Nation Police are also looking into the disappearance of a digital camera from a residence. The camera was due to be sent back to a relative who had left it there but some dishonest soul made off with it before that could happen. This matter is still under investigation.

Missing Vehicle

There is a report that a 1992 Dodge Dakota, yellow, bearing Ontario Marker 4402MS has disappeared from Sault Forest Products on Gran Street. The buyer, for storage purposes, had left the truck there. The vehicle had been the subject of a civil court action and had been ordered returned to the seller. When the seller turned up to pick it up he discovered that persons, unknown, had beat him to the punch. Investigation continues on this incident.

Harmony Theft

A cottage owner in the Harmony Beach area reports that during his absence a thief had paid a visit. The dishonest one made off with a cooler, a 27-inch Citizen television set and a small DVD player. The door to the cottage had been left open simplifying things for the thief. Sault Ste. Marie O.P.P. is investigating.

Havilland Break and Enter

A less difficult break and enter to solve. Just after midnight on Saturday morning Sault O.P.P. received a report of a break and enter in progress on Havilland Shores Drive. On arrival officers found approximately 10 youths gathered around a campfire. A female in the party identified herself and advised that the cottage belonged to her mother’s boyfriend but did admit that she did not have permission to use it. A short time later the real owner showed up.

Cottage Party Problem

Although related to the aforementioned boyfriend there was no agreement that the cottage could be used for this purpose. The young lady now found herself in a sticky situation. The others in attendance had been invited by her to attend this soiree at “her” cottage. There should have been some indication that all was not well when entry to cottage had been gained through a window rather than by a key in the lock at the door method, conventionally preferred. Benevolently, although not pleased, the cottage owner felt that charges were not warranted in this situation. Life at home will be a tad tense for a while for this sixteen-year-old young lady.
