Lost Cross Country Skier Rescued Sault Ste Marie OPP received a call Sunday afternoon at 5:30 that Olli Lamminen age 61 of Ann Arbour Michigan had called his wife on his cell phone stating he had got turned around while skiing north of Batchewana.

Sault Ste Marie OPP received a call Sunday afternoon at 5:30 that Olli Lamminen age 61 of Ann Arbour Michigan had called his wife on his cell phone stating he had got turned around while skiing north of Batchewana. Mr. Lamminen had gone skiing with his dog at 3:30 p.m. and had become lost. The Batchewana First Response team attended the scene just south of the Batchewana River, while the OPP and Sault Search and Rescue mobilized for the search. Two members from the Batchewana First Response team searched with their personal MSV’s and found Mr. Lamminen no worse for wear. Given the high winds and -20 Celsius weather this incident had a very good outcome.

Stop of ATV in Echo Bay Results in Impaired Charge

At 11:43 p.m. an OPP officer attempted to pull over an ATV with three people on board on Church St in Echo Bay. The ATV failed to stop for the police and but was eventually stopped in a parking lot. The officer who stopped the ATV had recognized the driver and knew his license was under suspension. Charge with Flight from Police , Impaired Driving and Drive with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood and drive under suspension is Joseph Anthony Jarrell age 48 of 117 Church Street Echo Bay. Mr. Jarell had breath readings in excess of 300 mg. in 100 ml of blood. The legal limit for driving with alcohol in your system is 80 mg %.

Weekend RIDE Efforts

OPP officers conducted RIDE in 8 locations over the weekend as the Festive RIDE Initiative continues. Officers checked 663 vehicles , 2 roadside tests were administered with both drivers passing. Two Highway traffic Act charges were laid
