(Hearst, Ont.) Officers of the Hearst OPP Detachment received a report of a motor vehicle collision which occurred on Highway 11, in McMillan Township, at the Nagagami River Bridge, approximately 60kms west of the Town of Hearst.
(Hearst, Ont.) Officers of the Hearst OPP Detachment received a report of a motor vehicle collision which occurred on Highway 11, in McMillan Township, at the Nagagami River Bridge, approximately 60kms west of the Town of Hearst.


A police investigation into this collision has revealed that, at approximately 04:53hrs, on the 23rd of December 2007, the driver of a 2005 Volvo tractor trailer unit with an Alberta licence plate was heading westbound on Highway 11, in McMillan Township.

The driver of the tractor trailer lost control when avoiding a second motor vehicle and breaching the guard rails of the Nagagami River Bridge.

The trailer portion of the vehicle remained on Highway 11 blocking the bridge. The tractor truck plummeted approximately 40 feet off the bridge into a ravine.

The 41-year-old driver of the truck from Bigger, Saskatchewan received minor injuries as a result of this collision and was transported by ambulance to the Notre-Dame Hospital in Hearst.

At this time, Officers from the Hearst OPP Detachment remain at the scene, as a passenger of the truck was ejected from the vehicle and remains missing. Missing is a 36 year old female from Bigger, Saskatchewan.

Also assisting at the scene are the OPP Emergency Response Team, the Canine Unit, a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator and a Scenes of Crime Officer. The OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit have been contacted and will be attending.

Highway 11 west of Hearst remains closed in both directions, due to poor visibility, bad weather conditions and this collision.

Road Closure Update

The Ontario Provincial Police advise the public of the following road closures.

Hwy 631 is now open.

Hwy 11 at Nagagami River Bridge which islocated 65 Km West of Hearst will be closed for approximately 6 more hours, for the Ministry of Transport to conduct an inspection and the necessary repairs.
