Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

(Hwy 17, Blind River) East Algoma (Blind River) OPP are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision which occurred on 28 December 2009 at approximately 11:30 am on Hwy 17, approximately 3 kilometres east of the Town of Blind River. The collision involving 2 vehicles resulted in 3 persons being transported to the Blind River District Health Centre with non-life threatening injuries. A fourth person was pronounced deceased at the scene. Highway 17 remains partially closed to 1 lane while Technical Traffic Collision Investigators continue to investigate the collision scene.

The deceased name is not being released pending next of kin notification.

Road Closure Advisory

The Ontario Provincial Police advise the public of the following road closure.

Location: Hwy 17, just east of Blind River.

Detachment area: East Algoma OPP

Time of road closure: 11:35 am

Reason for the closure: Motor vehicle collision

Detour: Hwy 17 at Woodlawn Drive closed to one lane traffic only for approx. 3-4 hrs.

Estimated duration of closure: 3-4 hours

Time road reopened: 3:50P.M.
