MISCHIEF REPORTS (Aweres Twp., ON) – A mailbox was damaged overnight on Friday, 30th January 2009 at a residence on Highway 552 in Aweres Twp. (Macdonald Twp., ON) – OPP responded to a mischief complaint Saturday evening on Highway 17 in Echo Bay.

(Aweres Twp., ON) – A mailbox was damaged overnight on Friday, 30th January 2009 at a residence on Highway 552 in Aweres Twp.

(Macdonald Twp., ON) – OPP responded to a mischief complaint Saturday evening on Highway 17 in Echo Bay.

A group of youths were reported throwing snowballs at oncoming traffic and placing large snowballs on the Highway for vehicles to hit.

The youths were gone prior to Police arrival.

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISIONS

(Fenwick Twp., ON) - Ontario Provincial Police and Goulais River First Response responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Friday, 30th January 2009 at 10:25 a.m. on Highway 552 East in Fenwick Township.

A 1992 Ford Bronco was backing out of a private drive when it was struck in the driver’s side by a 1999 Volkswagen travelling westbound on Highway 552.

59 year old Michel BOURGEOIS of 833B Hwy. 556 Vankoughnet Township was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act of Ontario and Fail to Yield from Private Drive contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

The driver of the Volkswagen, 25 year old Joel Handley of 280 Kirby Road in Vankoughnet Township was transported to Sault Area Hospital by Ambulance with minor injures. The vehicle had to be towed.

(Aweres Twp., ON) – A two vehicle collision on Highway 556 in Aweres Twp. was investigated by OPP on Sunday 1st February 2009 at 1:35 p.m.

The driver of vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 556 near Old Mill Road lost control on slushy roads crossed the Highway and hit a snow bank. The driver of the westbound vehicle collided with the vehicle in the snow bank.

There were no injuries to either driver.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, 32 year old Bradley Phaneuf of 400 Elizabeth St. Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was charged with Driving without a Licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH SPEEDING ON OFSC TRAIL

(Pennefather Twp., ON) – While on Motorized Snow Vehicle Patrol this weekend, OPP officer’s with the Highway Safety Division along with S.T.O.P. officer’s (Snowmobile Trail Officer Program) checked 115 snowmobiles.

Four charges were laid under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act.

One snowmobiler was allegedly caught on radar at 118 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone on the OFSC D Trail in Pennefather Township.

Three other snowmobilers were charged with Failing to Display registration numbers.
