A joint investigation in under way with the Sault Ste Marie OPP and the Ministry of Transportation to determine how a set of wheels fell off a transport over the weekend.

Yesterday at about 2:30 p.m. an officer from the Sault Ste Marie O.P.P detachment stopped a truck on Hwy 17 in Echo Bay. The truck was traveling well below the speed limit and a extensive line of traffic was building up behind the transport.

The officer quickly noticed that one set of tires on the trailer were missing and that one axle was being held up with a chain. The Ministry of Transportation was notified and the vehicle has been impounded until a joint investigation by the OPP and the Ministry of Transportation is conducted.


DRUG ARREST
Searchmont, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to the Searchmont Ski resort after security personnel at the resort found a young offender using drugs in a washroom.

Yesterday, at about 3:00 p.m. security officers were making their usual patrols at the resort when they found the teen in the process of preparing some drugs for his use. He was detained until police arrived.

A 16-year-old Goulais River youth has been charged with possession of a controlled substance.


SEAT BELTS SAVE OCCUPANTS FROM INJURIES

Sault Ste Marie OPP responded to three collision over the weekend with all three being attributed to weather conditions.

The brief snow storm that moved through the area on Friday night saw three vehicles slide into ditches and roll over.

Thanks to the use of seat belts and air bags no injuries were reported in any of the three collisions.
