Drinking and Driving

Goulais River, Ont. A Goulais River resident has been charged with drinking and driving after the truck he was operating struck a utility pole on the weekend.

On Saturday 24 February 2007 at about 2:30 a.m. police were called to Hwy 552 west in Goulais River in the area of the General Store. Original information indicated that a truck has struck a utility pole. Officers arrived to find tracks leading up to pole but the offending vehicle had left the area. A description of the vehicle was obtained from residents in the area. The impact of the crash also left pieces of the truck in the snow at the scene.

While conducting further patrols of Hwy 552 west, a pick up truck, matching the description of the original truck, came out of a nearby driveway almost cutting off the cruiser. The truck was pulled over and the driver got out of the truck. As he approached the officers they noticed that he had some difficulty walking and he fell down.

Other observations by the officers quickly indicated that the driver’s inability to walk was due to the self-ingestion of alcohol as opposed to any other injury.

Twenty four (24) year old Shane BURT of 879 Hwy 552 West in Goulais River has been charged with Impaired Driving, Driving While Over .08. Mr. Burt was also given a 90 day drivers licence suspension. He was released from custody and asked to have someone else to drive him to court in Sault Ste Marie on May 7, 2007.

DOUBLE WIDE SNOW MACHINE TRAILER STOLEN

Vixen Lake, Ont., A camper north of Searchmont had to make extra arrangements to get his snow machines home this weekend.

On Friday 23 February 2007 a camper parked in the parking area off Ranger Lake Road, north of Searchmont and took his snow machine into his camp for the weekend. On Saturday afternoon he decided to go ice fishing at another lake and came back out to the roadway enroute to his favorite fishing lake.

As he passed his truck and trailer in the parking lot he noticed something different about his truck. The trailer that was hooked onto the back of the truck when he went into his camp was now gone.

Sometime between Friday night and Saturday afternoon thieves had cut the lock off the hitch and stolen his snow machine trailer. The trailer is described as a homemade
double wide snow machine trailer.

If you are driving around your neighbourhood and you see one of your neighbours with a snow machine trailer that wasn’t there before, that is the kind of information we are looking for. Call any police department or Crime Stoppers and we would be more than happy to go have a look and see if that one belongs to the guy from Vixen Lake who had to make extra trips back and forth this weekend.
