BREAK AND ENTER INVESTIGATION

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) Police are currently investigating a break and enter on West Cul de Sac in Elliot Lake. On February 8, 2009 at approximately 3:23 p.m. the victim returned home to find his residence had been broken into.

Police attended and learned that between Friday, February 5, 2009 and the time of the homeowners returned unknown person(s) entered the residence via a window. Once inside the culprit(s) rifled through the home.

Missing at the time of the report was a wallet, two watches, a marine radio, a knife set and a Semi Auto Remington shotgun.

TWO BOYS RESCUED AFTER GOING THROUGH ICE

(Blind River, ON.) – On Saturday February 7, 2009 members of the East Algoma OPP Detachment responded to a call involving two boys going through the ice.

The boys had been playing on the rocks on the Blind River when one of the boys fell through the ice. The second boy attempted to rescue the first boy and also ended up in the water. The second boy was successful in getting onto a piece of floating ice, where he stayed on his stomach until he was rescued by police.

The first boy was pulled from the river by a local citizen and transported to the Blind River hospital by an off-duty firefighter and was later released.

The second boy was rescued near the train bridge by 3 OPP officers (one off-duty) and one member of the Mississauga First Nation Police Service. The second boy was transported to Blind River Hospital by ambulance and was released later that evening.

The boys will not be named.

The OPP would like to remind everyone that many factors affect ice thickness including: type of water, its location, the time of year and other environmental factors such as: water depth, size of body of water, currents, and fluctuations in water levels.


FOUR MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISIONS INVESTIGATED OVER THE WEEKEND

(Tilley Twp., ON) – OPP investigated a motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer carrying logs travelling southbound on Highway 17 North Saturday morning. The trailer lost some of its logs blocking one lane when the tractor rolled into the ditch

The roads were icy at the time. The logs were reloaded and the highway re-opened within 30mintues.

There were no injuries to the driver and minimal damage to the tractor.

(Batchewana First Nation, ON) – A single vehicle motor vehicle collision on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. was investigated on Superior Drive on the Batchewana First Nation just north of Highway 563.

A sand truck travelling eastbound sanding the roadway was making a right turn a slid off the roadway.

A minor oil spill occurred and was cleaned up also.

The driver received minor injuries and the sand truck had to be towed.

(Garden River, ON) – Two motor vehicle collisions occurred on Highway 17 near Echo River Road around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday evening.

In the first one, a 1995 Toyota pick up was travelling westbound on Highway 17 when the driver lost control on icy roads and rolled into the northbound ditch.

The driver was transported to hospital by ambulance with minimal injuries. The vehicle had to be towed.

In the second collision, a vehicle travelling northbound lost control on icy roads striking a guard rail.

There were no injuries to the driver but the vehicle had to be towed.

DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE

(Aweres Twp.,) ON – On Saturday the 7th February 2009 OPP responded to a domestic disturbance in Aweres Township.

It is alleged that an ex-boyfriend attended the victim’s residence and threatened to cause her bodily harm and also damaged her vehicle.

The male was arrested and charged with Mischief Under $5000.00 and Uttering Threats.

He is to appear in Bail Court this morning.
