A Goulais River man who was fast asleep on his couch on Saturday night, woke up to find himself being beaten up by another man

At about 11:00 p.m. on Saturday night the man, a female friend and a third person all fell asleep in front of the television. At about 11:00 p.m. a man walked undetected into the home and began beating on the Goulais River man.

Two other occupants of the home managed to stop the fight and police were called. The suspect left the house prior to police arrival.

When police arrived they found that a window on a vehicle owned by the man was also smashed out. The victim did suffer cuts and bruising but did not have to go to the hospital.

Sault Ste Marie OPP will be laying several criminal charges and will seek a warrant for the arrest of a twenty-nine-year-old Searchmont man today.

TRAFFIC AND MARINE UNIT HAS BUSY SATURDAY NIGHT

The OPP Traffic and Marine Unit had a busy Saturday night after conducting R.I.D.E checks in the Heyden and Goulais River area.

Throughout the night the officers from the Traffic and Marine Unit set up R.I.D.E checks on Trout Lake Road and throughout the Goulais River area. By the end of the night they had issued five 12-hour drivers licence suspensions, found one impaired driver, charged four people under the Motorized Snow Machine Act and issued one charge under the Liquor Licence Act.

All the people charged were from the Sault Ste Marie and surrounding area.

WEATHER RELATED COLLISIONS

Sault Ste Marie OPP investigated six weather related collisions over the weekend. Minor injuries were reported in only one collision that happened on Hwy 17 East in Laird Township.

In this collision the car went off the roadway and rolled over on its roof. The two occupants of the car complained of minor injuries but did not need any medical treatment. No charges were laid in all six collisions.
