COUNTERFEIT $50.00 (Elliot Lake, Ontario) On January 16, 2009 police received a call from a local bank regarding a possible counterfeit bill. Police investigated and it was determined that the $50.

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) On January 16, 2009 police received a call from a local bank regarding a possible counterfeit bill. Police investigated and it was determined that the $50.00 bill bearing serial number AHD3184887 was indeed counterfeit.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) January 15, 2009 at approximately 3:11 p.m. police received information of a possible impaired driver. At 3:23 p.m. police located the vehicle. Through investigation the driver was charged.

Charged with Impaired Operation and Over 80 is Joseph GUIGNARD (48) of Elliot Lake. GUIGNARD is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on March 3, 2009.

BROKEN WINDOW ON PARIS DRIVE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) Police are currently investigating a broken window at an apartment building on Paris Drive in Elliot Lake.

On January 17, 2009 police attended 10 Paris Drive regarding a broken window. Investigation revealed that unknown person(s) allegedly kicked the window beside an entrance door. The window measures approximately 30” X 40”. Estimated cost to replace the window is $300.00.

OPP INVESTIGATE 9 MOTOR VEHCILE COLLISONS

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – OPP officer’s from the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment investigated 9 motor vehicle collisions on local area Highways between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.

One of the collisions, Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. sent one female driver to hospital.

Both vehicles, a 2008 Pontiac Vibe and a 1998 Cadillac were travelling northbound on Highway 17 just before the Goulais River Bridge. The female driver of the Pontiac Vibe lost control while slowing down causing the vehicle behind to strike her vehicle.

Both vehicles had to be towed.

No charges were laid.

At approximately 4:15 p.m. on Friday OPP investigated a motor vehicle collision on Highway 556 in Aweres Township involving a school bus.

A 1998 Ford Explorer was eastbound on Highway 556 when it collided with the rear end of a school bus that was stopped with all its lights activated.

There were to injuries to any children that were on the bus or the vehicle drivers.

The Ford Explorer had to be towed.

Charged with Follow Too Closely under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario is 19 year old Nicole FARRELL of 33 Crystal Place in Sault Ste. Marie.

At 7:00 pm on Friday an OPP cruiser travelling westbound on Highway 556 was approaching the intersection of Highway 556 and Highway 17 in Aweres Township.

The OPP cruiser slid on ice into the northbound lane. A 2008 Honda vehicle travelling Northbound on Highway 17 near the Esso station in Heyden swerved around the cruiser to avoid hitting it and ended up in the northeast snow bank.

The single female occupant of the 2008 Honda was transported to hospital with non- life threatening injuries and has since been released.

The OPP officer was not injured. No charges have been laid.

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED IN SNOWBANK


(Highway 17, Montreal Mining Co. Twp.,) - A call for a vehicle impeding snow removal on Highway 17, ten kilometres north of Pancake Bay ended up to be stolen vehicle.

The 1998 black Honda Civic had been reported stolen on the 13th of January from Cougartown, Alberta.

There was no one around the vehicle.

GARAGE FIRE IN FENWICK TOWNSHIP

(Fenwick Twp., ON) – On Sunday the 18th January, Goulais River Fire and Rescue, and OPP responded to a garage fire at 11 Sundial Road in Fenwick Township.

The owner had put a pot of hardened oil used for deep frying on a propane operated burner to melt the oil faster. The owner then left the garage area to go into his residence. When he returned to the garage a short while later he noticed flames going up the walls and called 911.

The wooden structure was completely destroyed as were all the contents. No one was injured. Investigation revealed that the pot either boiled over onto the burner causing the fire or the burner burned a hole in the aluminium pot causing the oil to spill out and start the fire.

COTTAGE BREAK IN

(Ranger Lake, ON) – A camp on Ranger Lake Road was entered into sometime within the past week.

Stolen items include a power ice auger, radio, fishing gear, a Coleman lantern, and waterproof backpack with more fishing gear, 2 shovels, a skill saw, and an echo fireplace. fan

OUT ON THE TRAILS

(OFSC D Trails ON) – OPP officer’s with the Highway Safety Division and S.T.O.P. officer’s were out patrolling the trails this weekend.

Four snowmobiler’s were charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act for not having a Trail Permit, a fine, that if convicted will cost $240.00.

One snowmobile driver was charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act for Failing to Display Registration Numbers.
