A series of threatening phone calls over the weekend have Sault Ste Marie OPP looking for a 33-year-old Sault Ste Marie man for numerous criminal charges.

On Sunday evening, a Searchmont woman reported to Sault Ste Marie OPP that she has been receiving a series of phone calls over the weekend that caused her to be concerned about her safety.

Last night, OPP were able to determine the source of the calls and the identity of the male caller. Police attended a home in the Searchmont area for the man but were unable to locate him.

Police will obtain a warrant for him this morning. The man allegedly threatened the woman's life and threatened to damage some of her property. Several charges of threatening death and breach of court orders are expected to be laid today.



HIGHWAY 17 NORTH REOPENED
Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

The O.P.P. in conjunction with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario would like to advise you that Highway 17 North of Sault Ste. Marie has been reopened from Heyden to Wawa as of 3:40 this morning.

At 4pm yesterday the highway had been closed from Batchewana to Wawa but at 4:50p.m. the closure was extended to start at Heyden.

The closure was necessary due to blowing snow and poor road conditions.
