POLICE INVESTIGATING HOMICIDE IN WIKWEMIKONG (WIKWEMIKONG, ON) – On January 25, 2009 at approximately 2:01 p.m. Wikwemikong Tribal Police received a 9-1-1 call of a male found dead inside a residence on Wikwemikong Way on the Wikwemikong Reserve.
POLICE INVESTIGATING HOMICIDE IN WIKWEMIKONG

(WIKWEMIKONG, ON) – On January 25, 2009 at approximately 2:01 p.m. Wikwemikong Tribal Police received a 9-1-1 call of a male found dead inside a residence on Wikwemikong Way on the Wikwemikong Reserve.

Officers from Wikwemikong Tribal Police, and Sudbury Area Ambulance medics responded to the residence. The Coroner attended the scene and confirmed the death. The name of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

At the request of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Northeast Region Crime Unit and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are assisting with the investigation.

At this time, police are controlling vehicle traffic on Wikwemikong Way while the scene is examined and evidence collected.

Local schools will be remaining open and Wikwemikong Way will be opened to full traffic as soon as possible.

Police are reminding residents that public safety is the primary concern as the investigation continues. The preliminary information is indicating that this is an isolated incident and police have no immediate concern for public safety. The public is cautioned however that the perpetrator(s) of this apparent homicide are still at large.

Police are asking anyone that may have information in relation to this investigation or anyone who may see anyone suspicious in the area to call police at 1-888-310-1122.

The investigation is continuing under the direction of Detective Inspector Bernie Murphy of CIB. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

OPP INVESTIGATE SEVEN MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISONS IN 24 HRS.

(MacDonald Twp., ON) – OPP investigated a single motor vehicle East of the City on Saturday 24th January 2009 at 4:20 p.m.

The driver of a 2000 Mazda Black Van was travelling southbound on Watson’s Road in MacDonald Township with two passengers when the vehicle hit a patch of ice and rolled over into the ditch.

The vehicle had to be towed. There were no injuries to anyone in the vehicle.

17 year old Skylar WRIGHT of Ross St. in Sault Ste. Marie was charged under the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario with person under 19 years consuming liquor and under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario – Class G licence holder – B.A.C. above zero.

(Fenwick Twp.,) – OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision at 7:00 am Sunday morning on Highway 17 in Fenwick Township.

The driver, 59 year old Gary Vincent of Elaine Court in Sault Ste. Marie was travelling northbound in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado on Highway 17 near the intersection of Anderson Road when he attempted to pass a tractor trailer. The vehicle began skidding and sliding crossed the southbound lane, hit the snow bank then spun around back across into the northbound snow bank.

Mr. Vincent was transported to Sault Area Hospital with injuries. The vehicle had to be towed. No charges were laid.

Four other motor vehicle collisions were investigated on Highway 17 North which resulted in property damage to the vehicles. All involved vehicles had to be towed.
